Insight: We've always worked to build long-term relationships with sponsors, but now we're also helping sponsors work together to maximize opportunities. For the New York City Marathon on Nov. 5, Mirror Image, an Internet content delivery tool, worked with Nextel to deliver real-time results to Web sites during the race.
Coup: Many new sponsors in 2000 including Foot Locker, Best Buy and Pepsi-Cola Co.
Edge: Our efforts to give back to the community and make sure the event is entertaining to a broad sector of people, not just runners.
Fact: The New York City Marathon is such a big event, few people realize our organization also produces 75 other events each year.
Up next: Heightening the international feeling of the race course. Next year we hope to include a section for Italy along the race course, sponsored by Vespa and others, plus sections from other countries backed by appropriate sponsors.
