Inside Line: AmEx mags mix Caribbean chefs, N.Y. sites

American Express Publishing Corp.'s Food & Wine and Travel & Leisure this month launched the Barbados Chef Exchange, bringing Caribbean chefs to New York to create island-inspired dishes at top Big Apple restaurants. Next year, New York chefs head to Barbados for the 2001 Barbados Food & Wine Festival, March 6-11, with the magazines offering travel specials to subscribers. American Express Travel Related Services Co. and American Airlines are co-sponsors.

Klarbrunn Sparkling Water kicked off a tie-in with pianist Lorie Line, whose artwork will be featured on 1.5 million cans of Klarbrunn water. Supermarkets across the Midwest also are backing a sweepstakes to win free tickets to Ms. Line's 53-show holiday concert series. In addition, Klarbrunn is offering coupons for millions of free cans of its water online at this fall targets the millions of Americans who are purchasing a new home in a "Win a House" online sweepstakes, offering a new home "with an amazing yard" to one grand prize winner. Other cash prizes and gifts are included for sweepstakes entrants. is spending $4 million on the promotion, with print ads in national magazines and newspapers, via GMO/Hill, Holliday, San Francisco. Random drawings will be held Nov. 30.

Ducati North America announced it will double the number of riders it's sponsoring in the AMA Superbike Series motorcycle racing season next year. The move increases Ducati's sponsorship commitment from two riders to four as the motorcycle company steps up overall marketing initiatives surrounding the race series and puts more emphasis on motorcycle dealership tie-ins.

Super Snow Cross World Tour, in its second year of indoor snowmobile racing events, named Malone Advertising, Akron, Ohio, its first agency of record for advertising and marketing. Events will take place in Detroit; Fargo, N.D.; Indianapolis; Minneapolis; and Toronto this season, backed by local radio and online advertising.
