Advertising Age and Bloomberg's AdMarket 50 index of 50 top publicly traded marketers, agency and media companies ended up 5.93% in 2001, thanks to a fourth-quarter rally by investors banking on an early 2002 recovery. That compared to a loss of 7.1% for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and a 13.04% loss for the Standard & Poor's 500 Index. Comparisons are based on closing prices Dec. 29, 2000, and Dec. 31, 2001.
