The Variable is a Winston-Salem, N.C.-based agency that tripled in size during the past 15 months, expanding to 32 people and outgrowing its original office.

Business wins included Spin Master, Soffe, Interface and Primo Water. President Keith Vest credits the growth to deepening client relationships. Chief Creative Officer Joe Parrish said it's the people.

"Clients just love working with our people," said Mr. Parrish, adding that great advertising wouldn't happen without clients that are willing to listen and take a risk. One such client was Lowes Foods. Since The Variable rebranded the grocery chain, remodeled stores exceeded sales goals and the trend continued a year later.

The Variable helped Lowes Foods refresh their image, both in-store and in advertising.
