This summer, David Droga exploded back onto the advertising scene after a quiet period spent honing his new venture, Droga5. His new agency, in its Cannes debut, picked up a cyber Grand Prix and two media Lions.

This performance by Mr. Droga was a reminder that though the Aussie adman has left the big-agency life, he's still very much a player. The exec also served as Cannes press and film jury president.

The former top creative at Publicis Worldwide is already working with General Electric Co., Marc Ecko, TBS and four or five other marketers.

"We're not trying to reinvent the wheel," says the 37-year-old creative chairman of Droga5. "We're trying to take the wheel to a different place."

Maurice Levy, chairman-CEO of Publicis Groupe, which backs Droga5, says of the creative wunderkind: "His head is 100% in the future."
