[jerusalem--jan. 24] The first co-operation between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority in tourism marketing will appear across the U.S. in page ads sponsored by the Israeli Tourism Ministry and the Palestinian and Jordanian Ministries of Tourism & Antiquities. A "preview" ad was published in the Jan. 22 New York Times. The image campaign, running with the slogan "Peace: It's a beautiful sight to see," may lead to an Israel marketing campaign with the Palestinians. The campaign is handled by New York agency Christy MacDougall & Mitchell.

He had been regional managing director of Leo Burnett's Asia/Pacific network. Stephen Gatfield, London office CEO, succeeds Mr. Fergus as regional managing director of Asia/Pacific, based in Hong Kong. These promotions follow the decisions of James Oats, group president, Asia/Pacific, and Kerry Rubie, group president for Europe/Middle East/Africa, to retire.
[london--jan. 31] Trevor Beattie, the man behind renowned U.K. ads for the Playtex Wonderbra and Nissan Micra car, has resigned as creative director for Omnicom-owned TBWA London in the wake of its proposed merger with local shop Simons Palmer Clemmow Johnson. He said in a published article he was not happy with
the way in which staff within TBWA were being treated in preparation for the merger, due to go through at the end of February. The speculation now is that he will set up his own creative shop.
[bangalore, india--jan. 29] Software giant Microsoft Corp. is negotiating with BPL Telecom to launch Web TV in India, according to an unconfirmed report in an Indian business daily paper. The marketer and BPL are close to a decision and will conclude talks in March, The Economic Times newspaper said, quoting unnamed sources from the Indian telecom. BPL is part of the $640 million BPL Group, whose interests include consumer electronics. Also planned is a joint venture slated for after gauging response to Web TV.
