An employee of Google died in an accident at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France, the company said on Wednesday.

Google wouldn't comment on reports that the employee was an executive in its U.K. team who was involved in a car accident, and the company said it wasn't releasing further details in respect of family privacy.

"We lost a loved and respected member of our team," Google said in an e-mailed statement.

The Cannes Lions in France is the largest annual gathering of advertising and marketing executives.
