Gallery: Hats Off to Hatch Show

Published on .

Hatch Show Print in Nashville has been cranking out eye-catching show posters since before Bill Bernbach was born; it is probably the only advertising design that works as well for Graves Whole Hog Sausage as it does for the Beastie Boys. The company, which is still turning a profit after 120 years, uses hand-carved woodblock letters to create these little pieces of American folk art for clients like Jack Daniels, Nike, Taylor guitars, and Pizza Hut, as well as performers from Emmylou Harris to Porno for Pyros. Now its work is celebrated in a new book called Hatch Show Print: The History of a Great American Poster Shop (Chronicle Books, $35).
