DGWB's Orange County Ad Awards 2003 call for entries campaign is entitled "Stroke Your Ego." This is intended quite literally, since Ego, in this context, is Ego the Cat, who appears in a poster/centerfold piece and online at Strokeyourego.com. Ego will also be featured in e-card reminders and he'll star in a series of short films that will debut at the awards show on March 31. Local agency DGWB is last year's Best of Show winner, so the creatives know a few things about egos; not to mention cats. "It's a pretty plum assignment because you can do anything you want," says CD Enzo Cesario. "We wanted to do something cool, but still rooted in a simple truth." That truth being, "Basically, awards shows are all about ego-stroking and free booze, and not necessarily in that order," says writer Jason Norcross. "We just wanted to do something fun and not take ourselves or awards too seriously." We guess Booze the Cat didn't work, but Ego the Cat "just seemed to make sense," says AD Dave Hermanas. "Cats and egos have a lot in common. Both are delicate and fragile, but full of attitude. Besides, messing with cats is just funny."
