Maxwell: "This Woman's Work"

By Published on .

Who'd expect a tender R&B falsetto ballad, driven by a harp no less (not the type you play with your mouth) to have cool effects? We can only assume Maxwell, like his namesake, is smart. Marking the Digital Domain debut of visual effects supervisor Jean-Marc Demmer, Maxwell disappears into a puddle on a street corner and sings underwater - quite effectively, we might add. We're not quite sure what's going on here - turns out a falsetto can be just as indecipherable as a growl - but there's a poignant sense of loss and regret that's reflected in the beautifully mournful imagery and editing. And the song's real purty, too.
