Cover Story: Clooney creates a June cover tsunami

Magazine editors found a perfect June front man in George Clooney, with the movie star riding a swell of enthusiastic media for his latest flick. Mr. Clooney racked up 7 points and three covers--Biography, Premiere and the Star--to lead the Cover Story crowd for the month; it was a feat matched by his new movie, "The Perfect Storm," which topped the box office returns for its opening weekend.

Another star was close behind, with Tom Cruise earning 5.5 points on three covers for second place. The star of "Mission: Impossible 2" was seen on Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly and Vanity Fair.

A surprise wedding and a hit movie helped Angelina Jolie, star of "Gone in 60 Seconds," take the No. 3 spot.

Fourth place turned into a free-for-all, with 12 celebrities vying for the honor with 3 points apiece, including: Mary J. Blige, Hillary Clinton, Ethan Hawke, Joaquin Phoenix, Mena Survari and Mark Wahlberg.

Cover Story is Ad Age's monthly ranking of celebrities' popularity as reflected by their appearances on the covers of more than 30 of the nation's leading publications.
