Cover Story: Crowe crushes rivals for May cover crown

Russell Crowe slew the competition on newsstands in May, winning Cover Story laurels for the month. With his commanding role in "Gladiator," the Australian leading man captured 8.5 points with six covers, including Entertainment Weekly, People, Talk and Us Weekly.

Second-place went to Oscar winner Kim Basinger, who scored 7 points as her new film, "I Dreamed of Africa," opened.

No. 3 was a tie between stardom and politics, with "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston and Cuban cause celebre Elian Gonzalez each racking up 6 points.

Actress Ashley Judd claimed fifth place with 5.5 points, while actor Michael J. Fox took sixth with 5 points and Tom Cruise took the No. 7 spot, earning 3.5 points.

Nine contenders vied for eighth place, each with 3 points, including Sandra Bullock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Angelina Jolie, David Letterman, boy band *N Sync and Freddie Prinze Jr.
