Based in Austin, Texas, Adlucent is a digital marketing agency focused on retail -- and getting the right fit for employees. The shop has 86 staffers and last year's gross revenue was $16.2 million. Its rigorous recruiting process has 35 steps and includes an eight-hour take-home assignment. "We're trying to find that diamond in the rough," said CEO Michael Griffin. "We want employees that are engaged with what they do." There is a focus on career development as well as perks, such as quarterly community service projects and paid vacations with a $1,000 bonus for not checking email for five days. Dogs are also welcome in Adlucent's movie theater-turned-office space.
