Sugar Power Future on Paper Finalist

Published on .

My thinking behind this image is connected to both the past and the future. The desire for absinthe is inextricably intertwined with art history, especially in Paris during the turn of the century, which, for me, symbolizes creative frenzy, dreams, destruction and fantasy. The fin de si├Ęcle was a time when artists and writers were breaking boundaries. We're at a similar crux now, and this image plays with the idea of not knowing what the future holds but desiring to make it as fantastic as possible. A little intimate, certainly, but also a tip of the hat to the past and the future of art and creativity, I hope.
