Think the ad industry doesn't matter to the overall culture? Wonder why -- aside from the fact of its discriminatory hiring practices -- it's being singled out by class-action attorneys? It's because it shapes so much of American life. Case in point: The Atlantic's annual "State of the Union" issue focuses on race this year. It's cover story, "The End of White America" by Hua Hsu, references marketing a number of times. (Not only that, but it quotes three Big Tent bloggers: Bill Imada, Karl Carter and Rochelle Newman-Carrasco.) Well worth the read. Go check it out.
