PlayStation 2 (U.K.) "Mountain"
The use of this Shirley Temple nugget in this spot from TBWA, London, is perhaps the most sublime musical juxtaposition since Bartle Bogle Hegarty used Haydn for the Gold Lion-winning "Odyssey" Levi's spot.
2."Wingman" by Chris K.
Coors Light "Wingman"
You can't find guitar tabulatures for many jingles online, but you can for "Wingman." Performed by Chris K. of the band Goldspot-who co-wrote the ditty with Deutsch, L.A., copywriter Jason Elm-this ode grabbed the attention of music fans and beer drinkers alike.
3. "Pictures of You" by The Cure
Not only does "Pictures of You" fit perfectly here with both the product and the visuals, it is demographic gold. Goodby, Silverstein & Partners hits aging-that is to say, affluent-Gen-Xers where it counts: at the prom and in the dorm room.
4. "Happy Jack" by The Who
Hummer "Big Race"
As if to make up for every stilted use of the Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up" or Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll," this narrative spot from Modernista! turns to a lesser known track from The Who to create a story with Rushmore-like charm.
5. "Freedom of Choice" by Devo
Thanks to the success of the music house formed by its founding members-Mutato Muzika-Devo's songs have appeared in ads for everything from Target to Swiffer. Here, "Freedom of Choice" helps Miller issue a challenge to the Budweiser faithful.
6. "Mail Myself to You" by John McCutcheon
The United States Postal Service and agency Campbell-Ewald hit on this track from folkie John McCutcheon, which manages to be sweetly sentimental without being cloying.
7. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet
TBWA/Chiat/Day and Apple score with this colorfully kinetic campaign for the iPod. And Australian newcomers Jet provide a near perfect specimen of rock with their single "Are You Gonna Be My Girl."
8. "Rock Medley" by DeepMix
Coors Light "Rock On"
Music house DeepMix cleverly forges four rock anthems-from artists as diverse as Run-DMC, The Byrds, P.O.D. and The Scorpions-into one convincingly anthemic soundtrack for Coors and FCB, Chicago.
9. "Crazy Beats" by Blur
In the best Levi's spot so far from BBH/New York, British outfit Blur and producer Fatboy Slim provide just the right amount of raucousness for a rodeo scene-choreographed by Traktor-in which an urban cowboy wrangles a runaway car.
10. "On eBay" by Elias Arts
"On eBay" eBay
Goodby Silverstein's musical campaign for online auctioneer eBay is well over a year old, but none of the songs have been quite as catchy as this reprise of the Lieber & Stoller standard "On Broadway," which bursts forth from a stuffy office elevator.
