KesselsKramer co-founder Johan Kramer recently announced that he's hanging up his agency creative hat to move into directing fulltime, after signing with Chelsea Films in the summer of 2003. "Over the past couple years he's been getting more and more involved in directing, and it was a natural evolution for him as a creative person, and more importantly, as a writer," notes Chelsea executive producer Lisa Mehling. "He's one of the renowned agency creatives in the world. You can't run an agency and direct and do both well, so I think he realized he had to make a decision." Kramer had played his dual role for some time and has directed spots for Diesel (upper right), Ben Telecommunications, Hans Brinker Budget Hotels and Orange. He also shot with former partner Erik Kessels a feature-length documentary The Other Final, for which they staged a game between the world's two lowest ranking 2002 Fifa cup soccer teams, Bhutan and Montserrat. Kramer also penned and directed The Invention of the Flipper, a deceptively found-footage tale that was a finalist at the Creativity NoSpot filmfest (lower right). Currently, he's shooting a French perfume campaign and also bidding on projects for the U.S. Meanwhile, his name will remain on the shingle at KesselsKramer, where he will be succeeded by Dave Bell, who joins Erik Kessels as co-creative director.
