I can't think of any media-cultural institution, save for "The Simpsons," that has given me as much pleasure over as many years as The Onion. If you're lucky enough to live in a city that has free distribution of the physical newspaper, you know that The Onion really is "America's Finest News Source," per its tagline. As much as I love The Onion's website, it'll never quite substitute for the simple, stupid joy of encountering a stack of Onions, quickly scanning the front page, and then finding yourself grinning like an idiot at the satirical genius of (with apologies to the copy desk at the New York Post) America's finest headline writers.
So I'm delighted by the release of "Our Front Pages: 21 Years of Greatness, Virtue, and Moral Rectitude from America's Finest News Source" -- so delighted, in fact, that I'm spreading my good cheer by randomly giving away two copies (see details below). This oversized volume is my pick for the Best -- er, Finest -- Coffee Table Book of the Year.
Stay tuned: There are 11 more days of picks (and 22 more giveaways) to come.
THE FINE PRINT: To enter the random drawing for one of two copies of "Our Front Pages" in this informal Media Guy Pop Pick giveaway, send me an e-mail with "Our Front Pages" in the subject line on or before December 31 (the cut-off is 12 midnight EST). You must have a valid U.S. mailing address and be 18 or older.
