Lifetime's New Crime Drama Totally Understands About Your Insane Workload and Idiot Coworkers (Watch the Trailer)

The MediaWorks Guide to Summer TV: 'The Protector'

By Published on .

Today, as part of the MediaWorks Guide to Summer TV -- a sort of ongoing video cheat sheet to help you (and us) stay on top of the cultural/media conversation about the dozens of new shows premiering on television this summer -- we're presenting a brief trailer for the new Lifetime original drama "The Protector," which debuts this Sunday, June 12, at 10/9 C. In Lifetime's words, the show "centers on divorced mother Gloria Sheppard (Ally Walker), who juggles her demanding personal and professional life as an intuitive LAPD homicide detective while raising two boys, Leo (Thomas Robinson) and Nick (Sage Ryan)."

But you can glean a lot more about the Lifetime-y-ness of this lady-cop drama by listening to the voice of the DJ on Gloria's clock radio in the trailer below:

Good morning, Los Angeles! It's going to be another beautiful day: 78 degrees and sunny with a 90% chance of a homicide and a near certainty that you'll be dealing with some useless and arrogant detectives at the precinct today. We're thinking your partner's going to be especially annoying this morning -- so, good luck with that ! Better get in a few minutes with the kids before they're off to school and you've got to go solve some of the toughest cases in the city on, what, three hours of sleep? Go get 'em, Gloria. Now, back to Cindy with traffic!

Oh, Lifetime -- you feel our pain! We're exhausted, we've got idiot coworkers, we're dealing with insane pressure and impossible projects, and we're wracked with guilt that we're not spending enough time with our families. And how did you know we were hankering for an update on "Cagney & Lacey"? You guys! OK, all you Lifetime people are invited to a pedicure-and-mimosa party at our place! (Just as soon as we can find the time.)

P.S. Stay tuned for more trailers as the MediaWorks Guide to Summer TV continues next week. Joining us late? Here's yesterday's installment: Yes, Rapper/Actor Ice-T and His 'Outrageous' Wife Coco Now Have Their Own Reality Show (Watch the Trailer).
