Media Guy's Pop Pick: FCC Porn

Our Columnist's Current Media Obsession

You've probably read about how the FCC just announced that it intends to (very belatedly) fine 52 ABC stations a total of $1.4 million for airing a 2003 episode of "NYPD Blue" in which actress Charlotte Ross' ass was shown.

Per the FCC, the scene "depicts sexual organs and excretory organs -- specifically an adult woman's buttocks. ... Although ABC argues, without citing any authority, that the buttocks are not a sexual organ, we reject this argument." So there you have it: Church Lady FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, an underqualified (key resume item: He worked for Monica Lewinsky fetishist Ken Starr) Bush patronage hire -- a guy who spent several years obsessing about cigars and oral sex -- is now spending government resources fighting ABC stations for showing Charlotte Ross getting into a shower.

In honor of Kevin Martin's id, this week's Pop Pick freebie is, yes, FCC porn. I'm randomly giving away one set of the first four "NYPD Blue" seasons on DVD.

To be eligible, send me an e-mail with "Kevin Martin needs therapy" in the subject line on or before March 10.
