San Diego-based Holiday Matinee is a lot of things: for starters, a creative cooperative, a marketing consultancy and a design shop, with a zesty roster of clients over the past decade including W Hotels, Zappos.com, MTV and Urban Outfitters. It's also a trend-spotting blog, an eco-conscious purveyor of fashion (100% of proceeds from its Holiday Matinee Artist Series t-shirt line goes to Plant-It 2020, a tree-planting charity)... and now a book publisher.
"I Swear To Good You Are God At This" is 72-page paperback compilation of "creative inspiration" written by HM founder Dave Brown, a soft-spoken bearded fellow who I met over coffee during his recent swing through Manhattan. The book puts a gentle, generous spotlight (it's heavy on pictures, light on text) on a charmingly random group of idea people from all over the place. Like "Dreams of Flying" photographer Jan von Holleben of Cologne, Germany. All Day Buffet, the creative incubator behind, among other things, the Feast Conference (returning to New York this fall). And Estonian type foundry Hand Made Font. It's a quick read and it make me happy.
The goal of the book, writes Brown, is "to give people the push to invest in themselves, do what they love and inspire as many awesome people as possible." To celebrate its publication, I'm randomly giving away copies to two (hopefully) awesome people.
THE FINE PRINT: To enter my random drawing for one of two copies of "I Swear To Good You Are God At This" in this informal Media Guy's Pop Pick giveaway, send me an e-mail with "Good God" in the subject line on or before Feb. 19 (the cut-off is 12 midnight EST). You must have a valid U.S. mailing address and be 18 or older.
