Media Guy's Pop Pick: 'The Wire' Soundtrack (for Free!)

Our Columnist's Current Media Obsession

Heaven knows the media love media about media -- which is surely why HBO's drama "The Wire" has been getting so much attention lately. (In its fifth and final season of vivisecting various Baltimore institutions, the show is taking aim at The Baltimore Sun.)
Still, Nonesuch Records' release this month of "The Wire: And All the Pieces Matter," a compilation of gritty, soulful music from the series (Tom Waits, Neville Brothers, the Pogues, etc.), reminds me that "The Wire" has gotten damn near every detail pretty much pitch-perfect. I'm giving away a copy to one randomly selected reader. To be eligible, put "The Wire soundtrack" in the subject line of an e-mail to me on or before Jan. 31.

New to "The Wire"? Because I think it's a masterpiece that deserves to be watched from episode one on, I'm also giving away one set of the first four full-season DVD box sets of "The Wire." Same rules as above, except subject-line your e-mail "The Wire DVDs."
