"The most awesomely awesome show ever" returns to TV Sept. 1. No, "The Wire" isn't back for a surprise sixth season. I'm talking about "Gossip Girl," which got that winkingly over-the-top accolade (in a story coverlined "BEST. SHOW. EVER.") in the spring pages of my old glossy stomping grounds, New York magazine. I owe a debt of gratitude to writers Jessica Pressler and Chris Rovzar for making me feel better about my own "Girl"-y fanboy status by arguing, for starters, that the show "is changing the very model of a successful TV show" with its devoted online following and that it's "resurrected the potential for scripted dramas to be effective social satire." Either you're already convinced or you need to tune in. In honor of the new season, I'm randomly giving away a copy of the just-released "Gossip Girl" season-one DVD box set
. To be eligible, send me an e-mail
with "Gossip Girl" in the subject line on or before Sept. 30.
