Last night, #SwitchedAtBirth was a Top 10 Trending Topic on Twitter -- good news for ABC Family, because fans were tweeting about its new drama "Switched at Birth." Though Television Without Pity isn't loving it (@TVWithoutPity: #SwitchedAtBirth was the ideal show for people who think 'Secret Life of the American Teenager' is too "edgy"), Entertainment Weekly's Jennifer Armstrong gave it a B+: "High-concept, and yet it works, thanks to solid acting." High-concept? We could explain, but instead, as part of the MediaWorks Guide to Summer TV, we're presenting a trailer (below) as a sort of video cheat sheet so you can stay on top of the buzz about the dozens of new shows that are premiering on TV this summer. (Remember when you could take a vacation from TV in the summer? We miss those days.)
In addition to catching you up on ABC Family's big dramatic launch, we're also previewing Oxygen's "The Glee Project" (premiering Sunday, June 12 at 9/8 C) -- which is , well, totally low-concept. Basically: 40,000 people auditioned for a shot at a guest-starring role on "Glee" -- and we viewers get to spend time with the top contenders. Like the gal shown in the video below who declares (no kidding), "I'm an amazing flirt. My talent is the way I flip my hair." When another contestant says (no kidding), "My journey here has been amazing so far," please refrain from throwing your shoe at your computer screen, because Oxygen (and Ad Age ) will not reimburse you for any hate-related damages.
