A Carriage Battle With Dish Network Inspires AMC's Video Campaign

Last week the top three videos on our chart were Olympic-themed, but in an upset this week, two campaigns with supernatural themes win gold and bronze: Intel and Toshiba's "The Beauty Inside" and AMC's "Put Zombies Back."

With 5.1 million views, "The Beauty Inside" is a trailer for a social film that tells the story of Alex, a guy who restores antiques and who wakes up every day in a new body. It stars Topher Grace and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Fans will be able to interact with the main character on Facebook, where they will also be able to audition to play the role of Alex. Since the main character's appearance changes, multiple fans -- both men and women -- will get a chance to play him in this six-part series, which debuts August 16 on Facebook.

This is the second social film for Intel and Toshiba, which had success with a thriller called "The Inside Experience," starring Emmy Rossum as a woman trapped in a chamber with a laptop as her only source of communication. Fans interacted with the characters in real time and affected the plotline by voting on what the next steps in the story should be. Both that film and this new one were created by agencies Pereira & O'Dell and B-Reel.

In the No. 3 spot, the "Put Zombies Back" campaign is AMC's response to the being dumped by the Dish Network in July. The Thinkmodo video, which debuted with 3.8 million views, puts zombies a la "The Walking Dead" on NYC streets -- as policemen, mailmen, and hot-dog vendors -- and filmed the reactions of passers-by . One zombie even drags a dish behind him. The final line calls for "Zombies to be put back on TV" and directs viewers to a website that gives contact information for alternative providers that carry AMC.

But AMC isn't stopping with this one campaign. It has also launched a promotion that will award $4,000, a Canon camera, and a meeting with channel executives to the viewer who makes the best video about losing his or her favorite shows because of Dish. AMC will also promote that video through social media.
