DirecTV has made its debut on the Viral Video Chart with a spoof music video, "Football on Your Phone," starring Eli and Peyton Manning.
The spot, which is nearly three minutes long and was created by Grey New York, drew over 7 million views last week, according to Visible Measures.
The quarterback champs play hip-hop stars -- decked out in gold chains and ridiculous wigs -- rapping about the ability to watch football on your phone through DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket package. With lyrics like "It's football on your phone/ So now's your chance/ To have football on your phone/ And football in your pants," the spot has so far surpassed all other DirecTV campaigns by more than two million views.
The ad comes amid questions over the future of the exclusivity of NFL Sunday Ticket to DirecTV. Its current deal is set to expire after the 2014 season, and there's plenty of speculation that the company could find a new exclusive pact too expensive. The satellite operator said during its most recent earnings call that it is in talks with the National Football League and is optimistic that NFL Sunday Ticket will remain with DirecTV.
Rival Dish Network also appears as No. 3 on the Viral Video chart this week, with its "Talk Boston" campaign. The satellite operator is running over 20 mini lessons on Boston as a second language, which have garnered about 5.8 million views in total.
