John Lewis Holiday Video Gains 137 Million Views in Its First Week

Forget the U.S. election results, post-Brexit anxiety or other uncertainties. It's the season for a battle of the brands to make the most compelling holiday video of the year.

Nowhere is this more true than in Britain. "Buster The Boxer," John Lewis's just-released Christmas ad, was this week's top viral video with 137.2 million views. The ad features wild animals jumping on a backyard trampoline while Buster, a house dog, looks on and decides to copy them. Rival Marks & Spencer's "Love Mrs. Claus" campaign video came in a distant second with 12.2 million views. The effort breaks new ground with its depiction of an empowered, tough-as-nails Mrs. Claus, played by British actress Janet McTeer. The video portrays Mrs. Claus jetting off in a helicopter to make a last-minute gift delivery for a young girl.

The two British blockbuster holiday ads beat out other newcomers to this week's list, including campaigns from Starbucks, Trivago and Walmart. Meanwhile, last week's fifth-place video from Samsung featuring an education program held its spot.
