Tech: Wireless devices gain momentum

A raft of sleek new handheld devices promises to excite and entice even the most die-hard Luddites this fall. Take Panasonic's portable SV-SD50 e-wear player ($49.95) thatgives music fans the ability to play up to 30 hours of their favorite digital music tracks using only one AAA battery.

The T-Mobile Sidekick is a wireless handheld device that enables consumers to Web surf, access e-mail, do instant messaging and make phone calls via a high-speed, always-on network. The device, marketed by Voice-stream, is $199. Sony Ericsson's T68I wireless phone incorporates a "Communicam" that takes digital photos and offers photo caller-ID, customized gaming and other options.

In November, the much-anticipated Microsoft Corp. TabletPC product, arrives, using Microsoft's Journal software program.
