Darkness Prevails

The lights may have gone out during the infamous Northeast blackout of August 2003, but as British cellular company Orange shows in the sentimental spot "Blackout," New Yorkers' spirits remained as bright as ever. Against a montage of scenes featuring carefree citizens strolling, dancing and playing in the darkened streets, a voiceover remarks, "Sometimes things have to switch off for people to switch on." A phone company celebrating the joys of a switched-off phone? Strange, but true-and all the more powerful.
