Washington Mutual and agency Sedgwick Rd. continue to nutcase their way to the top of the bank ad heap. Here, in the Craig Gillespie-directed "Development Center" campaign, all-out sight gags are the rule, and they work. We've got the Insta Branch, which goes from, "Hey, what's that, a beef bouillon cube?" to a building-size inflatable disaster; the Bill B Gone, a "portable" bill payer that's the size of a large fridge; and the "interest-bearing money shrub," which is still under development in the lab, where it's tossing people around like they were toys. Says agency CD Steve Johnston, "The point is to differentiate Washington Mutual in a relevant way that makes people laugh - their asses off, hopefully."
