Fox Sports Net, with the aid of the effects wizards at Method, does an excellent talking basketball, but what makes these spots work are the equally fine scripts. The basketball saves his buddy's seat at a bar, spilling a beer on an interloper; the basketball crosses a busy street by itself while in a rush to get to the court; the ball repeatedly gets stuck between the backboard and the hoop, razzing his owner like a best friend; and in an oddly poignant moment that underscores the strange relationship between sports-obsessed guys and women, the basketball assumes the voice of a chick while his buddy is on the phone, causing the guy's girlfriend to hang up on him. Which he doesn't particularly seem to mind. Oddly brilliant.
