Coke weighs China media-biz options

[Shanghai] Coca-Cola Co. is meeting with media agencies in China "to understand the capabilities of the media-services industry" in that market, according to company spokeswoman Brenda Lee. ZenithOptimedia, which in China is run by Publicis Groupe's Saatchi & Saatchi network, handles Coke's media on the mainland. The size of the business was not disclosed, but Coke is believed to spend more than $30 million on media in China. However, Ms. Lee insists Coca-Cola is not holding an official media review. "This is something we do from time to time in our key markets, and does not necessarily lead to any changes in the media assignment." In recent weeks, several agencies have made credentials presentations, including Universal McCann.
