[Detroit] Gillette Co. is on the verge of signing David Beckham, the world's most famous soccer player, to a multiyear endorsement deal estimated at $30 million to $50 million. A Gillette spokeswoman declined to comment, saying only that the company "looks at sports celebrities on a regular basis." Executives close to the situation said Mr. Beckham will not be part of Gillette's launch of the new Mach 3 M3 battery-operated razor in June, but that footage of him has already been shot for another campaign later in the summer. As a star with England's national team, and with his professional team, Spain's Real Madrid, Mr. Beckham has achieved enormous popularity both in Europe and in Asia, where he can virtually hand-deliver that market for any advertiser. He also has endorsement deals with Pepsi-Cola for an estimated $9 million, Adidas-Salomon ($5 million) and Vodafone ($2 million). See QwikFIND aap57p
