Hairdresser ads use bin Laden image

[Brussels, Belgium] Although most Americans wouldn't want to share a hairdresser with Osama bin Laden, a tiny Belgian company used his image to promote its visiting hairdressing business. Interpublic Group of Cos.' Springer & Jacoby, Antwerp, negotiated a rock-bottom rate for a single newspaper ad for almost-penniless local client Beauty Services. The seven hairdressers had seen their business doing hair at retirement homes and hospitals plummet and wanted to reposition their visiting service to office workers. In the ad, the text under a photo of a bearded bin Laden in a turban reads "If you're too busy to come to us" and ends "we'll come to you" under the post-styling picture of a freshly-coiffed bin Laden. After the ad ran last month, Belgian newspapers rushed to write about it.
