[London] Beer marketer Scottish Courage is taking its peculiar brand of British humor on an American outing for the latest U.K. commercial in its long-running campaign for John Smith's bitter starring comedian Peter Kay as the "No-Nonsense Man." Instead of pontificating in an English pub, he takes a down-to-earth approach to celebrity hype at an Engelbert Humperdink concert in Las Vegas. As the singer reaches the climax of his hit tune "Please Release Me," Mr. Kay interrupts by enthusiastically shouting "Go!" The singer is stunned into silence, and Mr. Kay's family and friends hang their heads in shame. The campaign by Omnicom Group's TBWA, London, has helped double John Smith's lead over its nearest rival in the bitter category, and earlier spots were touted as Grand Prix contenders last year at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
