Kao to enter mainland China

By Published on .

[Tokyo] Japan's Kao Corp. will enter mainland China's prestige-cosmetics market over the next year with 10 stores in and around Shanghai selling mainly skin-care products under the Kao Sofina brand. Kao also plans to retail Sofina products through urban department stores. Separately, Kao in Taiwan appointed Omnicom Group's OMD to handle its $25 million TV buying account for household cleaners, skin care, hair care, baby care and other products following a four-way pitch against the incumbent, Interpublic's Universal McCann, Dentsu's Media Palette and Hakuhodo. Non-TV media is handled by Kao in-house.
