Reader's Digest starts Canada title

[Montreal] Reader's Digest Ltd. this month launched Our Canada, a bimonthly magazine that claims to offer Canadians a place to share their stories, pictures, memories and recipes. The company has virtually eliminated editorial costs by soliciting unpaid material from Canadians who will receive only a copy of the magazine or a box to store photos in return for their submissions. The first issue of the 68-page, 200,000 circulation magazine had no advertising but will carry inserts and is considering paid advertising, said a Reader's Digest spokesman. The Our Canada concept is a first for Reader's Digest, but is being closely monitored by the company.
