[New Delhi]Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting will launch Pogo, an English-language channel for children in India, on Jan. 1. Like Turner's other children's channel, Cartoon Network, Pogo will reach about 18 million of India's 40 million cable and satellite homes. Advertisers haven't signed up for Pogo yet, but Cartoon Network carries ads from Nokia, Hyundai, and Citibank as well as more traditional kids' marketers like Frito-Lay and local candy brands. "Moving beyond animation to a kids' live action channel, Pogo is a first for Turner, not only in India, but for Turner Broadcasting worldwide," said Anshuman Misra, Turner's managing director for India based in New Delhi. A Turner spokeswoman said, "At the moment, there are no plans to expand the channel into other markets. It was created specifically for India, because of our experience here." Programming ranges from young children's fare like Teletubbies to drama and comedy for older kids. The new channel will compete with Viacom's Nickelodeon.
