U.K. TV promotes profanity, says group

[London] After counting swear words on 60 movies on U.K. TV, viewer watchdog Mediawatch U.K. is accusing broadcasters of making "a consistent effort to promote obscenity, swearing and profanity." The group claims that the worst offender so far this year is Martin Scorsese's 1990 film "Goodfellas," with 212 uses of one particularly strong expletive. John Beyer, director of Mediawatch U.K., said "Advertisers are contributing to this decline in standards because they fund commercial television." In the U.S., major advertisers have organized the Family Friendly Programming Forum to back family-friendly programming, but there is no similar effort in the U.K.
