[New York] To no one's surprise, Wieden & Kennedy London's delightful "Grrr" spot for Honda U.K.'s cleaner diesel engines was the most awarded TV commercial in the world over the last year, according to the Gunn Report. Donald Gunn, creator of the ranking that tabulates winners at the top international and print awards shows, said the Honda spot "was a shoo-in for the Grand Prix just about everywhere it was entered" and scored twice as many points on the Gunn scale as the next most-awarded commercial, Adidas' "Laila" spot by 180 Amsterdam/TBWA, New York.
On the print side, the most-awarded work was a Thai campaign for Tamiya Model Kits Shop ("Light Bulb," "Frog," and "Watermelon") by Creative Juice /G1, Bangkok.
For the second year in a row, Volkswagen was the most-awarded marketer in the world, followed by Adidas and Sony. Almap BBDO, Sao Paulo, Brazil, was the most-awarded individual agency, also for the second year in a row, picking up awards around the world for Pepsi-Cola, Volkswagen, Whiskas, Bayer aspirin, FedEx and local Brazilian marketers. The other top five agencies were TBWA Paris in second place, followed by Dentsu in Japan, DDB London and Crispin Porter & Bogusky, Miami. Wieden & Kennedy's London agency, last year's No. 2, dropped to No. 7 this year, despite the "Grrr" spot. The most-improved agency was Bartle Bogle Hegarty's London office, which shot up the ranks to No. 12 from No. 32 last year.
The top three slots in the ranking of international networks always belong to Omnicom Group's three agencies, although the order changes. This year, TBWA Worldwide topped the ranking, followed by BBDO Worldwide and DDB Worldwide.
