In last week's chart tallying the top TV shows on entertainment check-in service GetGlue, the Summer Olympics made their mark on the Top 10 chart. This week it's AMC that 's stealing buzz, thanks to marathons of two of its shows. Scroll down below the graphic for more notes and context.
- HBO's "True Blood" spent another week at the top of the check-ins chart, and also won its night in cable ratings with 4.5 million viewers. The series was renewed for its sixth season last week, which also saw HBO announce that it would swap in a new head writer. Though "True Blood" check-ins declined from the week before, its lead over onetime chart champion "Nikita" widened considerably as that show's numbers continued to tank.
- The growing gap between "True Blood" and "Nikita" provided room for AMC's "The Walking Dead," which made a surprise appearance high on the chart this week thanks to a marathon on AMC this past weekend to whet fans' appetites for the third season, which won't arrive until fall.
- AMC also found its way onto the chart with the help of "Breaking Bad," the acclaimed drama about a high-school chemistry teacher who becomes a big-time meth dealer. Every Sunday since early June the network has aired late-night marathons of the show leading up to its fifth season premiere this Sunday. That it's finally made the Top 10 list for the first time this week reflects viewers' interest in its most recent episodes Sunday night and almost certainly means we'll be seeing it again on next week's chart.
- This week's big loser? Showtime's "Weeds," which saw 30,000 fewer check-ins than last week and dropped three spots on the chart.
