In our last chart tallying the top TV shows on entertainment check-in service GetGlue, Bon Temps' vampires and werewolves proved no match for a weeklong programming stunt devoted to the fierce ocean predator. But with Shark Week over, the fifth season of "True Blood" showed renewed social bite. Scroll down below the graphic for more notes and context.

  • With no Olympics or Shark Week to contend with, HBO's "True Blood" reclaimed the top spot on our chart of TV's most checked-in shows. The campy supernatural drama had a strong finish to its season, drawing more than 5 million viewers and easily winning the night on cable. It also had double the number of most of its competitors' check-ins. Despite mixed reviews in recent seasons, HBO has said "True Blood" will return next year.
  • In our last column, we predicted that NBC's fairy-tale procedural "Grimm" would continue to find its home on GetGlue. Indeed the show did manage to rise two spots on our newest chart for last week. But the Aug. 21 episode attracted fewer viewers than its heavily promoted season premiere a week earlier and saw the total number of check-ins slip as well. It will be interesting to see how the series fares once the fall season gets under way in earnest.
  • New on the chart this time around is the third-season premiere of Syfy's "Face Off," a reality competition series for special-effects make-up artists. Syfy used the premiere of "Face Off" to roll out Syfy Sync, a second-screen update to the Syfy Channel app that lets viewers interact with the show's producers and contestants. The visually engaging series is shaping up to have a ton of social pull and will likely expand its footprint on GetGlue and other platforms in weeks to come.
