News Corp. and Apple are set to unveil a deal that would let consumers rent movies digitally through the iTunes online store, the Financial Times
reports. News Corp.’s 20th Century Fox also plans to release DVDs that consumers would be able to copy for use on an Apple iPod. The deal is likely to be unveiled at the Macworld show on Jan. 14. It could break the dam that has kept digital distribution of movies from becoming widespread, making the computer screen a more viable competitor for the TV, and increasing demand for products that link the two devices.
