Apple Allies With Studios for Movie Downloads

Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced an alliance with major Hollywood studios that will make movies available for rent over the iTunes download store, TVWeek reports from today’s MacWorld meeting. Paramount, Warner Bros., New Line, Universal, 20th Century Fox, Sony, Walt Disney, Touchstone, Miramax, MGM and Lionsgate are participating. Apple’s offerings will compete with other download services such as CinemaNow, Vongo and MovieLink, none of which have established a dominant position in the marketplace.
