China Eases Law on Video-Sharing Sites

China’s Ministry of Information Industry has added a clarification to its recent law requiring the government to own or have a controlling interest in Web video-sharing sites, PaidContent says. According to a Chinese technology Web site,, the MII will allow sites released before the law was announced to reregister and continue operating as is. The law was announced earlier this year in a government effort to regulate the online distribution of potentially classified or obscene content.
