Macrovision-Gemstar Deal Sends Shares Down

Macrovision Corp., which makes anti-copying software for video and other content, agreed to buy Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc., the Wall Street Journal says (subscription required.) But investors showed displeasure for the deal, sending both companies’ stock down. Macrovision’s plan is to let users call up information on TV shows, as well as accessing their photos and music libraries on a variety of devices using its software and Gemstar’s programming data.
