DVD-rental service Netflix and LG Electronics are teaming to sell a device that will allow movies to be downloaded over the Web and played on television sets, the Wall Street Journal
reports (subscription required). Details on the cost of the device and any subscription fees weren’t disclosed, but it’s another step toward a converged Web-video/TV world. So far, attempts like Apple TV have failed either due to lack of content selection or clunky user experience. The Associated Press
points out that online movie download site CinemaNow Inc. also has struck a deal with software company Macrovision Corp. designed to make it easier for hardware makers to make their products work with CinemaNow’s downloadable movie service.
