Velocity's Levinsohn on Digital Media 2008

By Greg Published on .

Former News Corp. new-media dealmaker Ross Levinsohn, who helped bring MySpace to the Murdoch mothership, gave Kara Swisher’s Boom Town blog an interview on the state of digital media going into 2008. Levinsohn, now searching for promising media investments for Velocity Interactive Group, says low-cost production combined with viral distribution and established ad networks can result in a nice living for some producers. He observes that a new crop of talent that doesn’t necessarily want to work for a studio is stoking the start of venture capital opportunities in Hollywood. He says in late 2008-early 2009, video is probably the best monetization play in new media, but that the development of video search will be the key. As for Velocity, the firm is interested in pure-play content, distribution, monetization and platform companies.
