Web Video to Account for Half of All Bandwidth Consumption by 2012

By Sergio Published on .

Cisco is projecting that Internet bandwidth usage could increase sixfold in the next five years, due largely to Web video, Silicon Alley Insider says, citing a Wall Street Journal summary. The coming increases are partly behind attempts by some of the major U.S. Internet service providers to stop charging flat rates, and instead begin charging according to usage. Cisco is projecting that Web video will account for half of traffic by 2012, up from 30% today.
