Profile of the Week: Pfizer

Published on .

Pfizer joined the AdMarket 50 Aug. 3, replacing Quaker Oats Co., which ceased trading Aug. 2 after PepsiCo closed its $13.8 billion acquisition. Pfizer had a mixed week; a California court dismissed a lawsuit linking Viagra to cardiac failure, but the Food and Drug Administration ordered the pharmaceutical company to withdraw ads for cholesterol drug Lipitor that the FDA found misleading. None of this has dimmed investors' love for the stock; Pfizer reported higher second-quarter profits thanks to cost-cutting moves. Among AdMarket 50 companies last week, 35 stocks were up, 14 were down and Walt Disney Co. was unchanged.
